So…. it appears that Peter Parker’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is not Captain America: Civil War, but Iron Man 2 back in 2010!
In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Peter Park/Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has confirmed that Parker actually had a cameo in Iron Man 2.
“I can confirm that as of today,” Holland stated. “I literally had a conversation with [Marvel Studios head] Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
The scene Holland referred to is the one shown above. In the scene a brave young boy in Iron Man mask stands up against Justin Hammer and well, that boy is supposed to be Peter Parker. This is obviously a retcon to bring Parker into the MCU much earlier and creates an illusion that he has always been part of the universe. I like it, and it would be even better if we can see this scene again from a young Peter’s point of view in future films. Also, it will make Tony’s mentorship to Peter even more meaningful.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7th.
