Things Worth Noticing in the Thor: Ragnarok Trailer

“We know each other!  He’s a friend from work!”

The trailer for Thor: Ragnarok dropped earlier this week, and like always, I’m here to talk about all the Easter eggs and things worth mentioning in the trailer.  The trailer balances humor, action and fantasy perfectly, and not to mention a clear connection to another MCU property.  We will talk about which one later, but it’s really obvious which one I’m talking about with the Led Zeppelin soundtrack and retro font the film is sporting.

First off, the clear comic influences.  The film has Jack Kirby signature all over it, and you can see it clearly in the trailer.  The melodramatic designs, bright color palette and the title of course.  Other than that, the film clearly adopts from Planet Hulk, one of the best Hulk stories ever.  While it’s sad we are not getting a full Planet Hulk movie, this is a good substitute regardless.

Let’s jump into the star of the trailer- Cate Blanchett’s Hela.  The talented actress is already my personal goddess, and now seeing her as a goth queen?  I can die a happy man.  Personal preference aside, just how strong is she really?  Seeing that She has the ability to destroy Thor’s Mew Mew, she has to be plenty strong!  But where did she get her power from?  It’s stated by director Taika Waititi that Thor: Ragnarok will lead directly into Avengers: Infinity War, so it’s possible that the final Infinity Stone, the Soul Gem, is in Hela’s hands.  This also explained the her ability to suddenly kill everyone on Asgard.

Thanos is friend-zoned by Death in the comics, and to impress her, he decides to collect the Infinity Stones to conquer to world.  Is it possible that Hela will replace Death’s role in Infinity War?  I would like to think so.

It’s obvious that Thor cut his hair, but the winged helmet is the one that’s really worth mentioning here.  This is a classic signature look for Thor, and it’s great we are finally getting it in the third Thor film- a good six years after the Thunder God’s initial film debut.  Thor is not the only one sporting a new helmet, as Loki is wearing one similar to the one he has in Agent of Asgard series, and Hela got her Jack Kirby designed signature headpiece as well.

Oh, and the club Thor is carrying in the arena looks like Hercules’ trademark mace.

Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is heavily featured in the trailer as well.  She seems to be working alongside Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, but a bit of her backstory is revealed as well when we see her and the other Valkyries flying to attack Hela.  We also get to see Hela’s blade Nightsword in the trailer.

Last but not least, let’s talk about that connection I promised at the beginning of the article.  Thor: Ragnarok has a clear connection to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.  From the Led Zeppelin soundtracks, to the jokes and colorful palette, not to mention Grandmaster- the Collector’s brother in the comics is in this film too.  It’s great that Marvel is further expanding their cosmic movie wing, and I’m expecting to see the Guardians at the end credit of Thor Ragnarok.

So what do you think about the trailer.  Personally, I think it’s Hela good!

I will see myself out.

Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters on November 3rd.
