To be honest, “The Whisperer War” is kind of a let down, but the real story lies in the aftermath. Issue 165 continues Alexandria’s struggles against the waves and waves of walkers, and the status quo of our survivors is never going to be the same. This is easily one of the best issue in the longest time.
The issue still features the on-going “friendship” between Negan and Rick. It’s really interesting to see how similar the two really is, and how different they can be at the same time. While I’m a big fan of the relationship between the two, the issue also shows us the greater danger with the betrayal of the Saviors. This is a nice turn of events, as it takes the already chaotic situation to the next level. Oh, and let’s not forget the subplot involving Eugene’s secret radio. What’s that about?
Other than the Saviors’ betrayal, it’s really nerve-wrecking to see Eugene trying to escape from the sea of walkers. This is a really intense moment, and well, a reminder that no character is safe in this series. The result of that character is not clear yet, but I’m pretty sure this is it. This is a great, suspenseful issue that clearly shakes up the status quo, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.
We will go into details in the next review if that character is truly dead.
