The Walking Dead “Hostiles and Calamities” Review

Oh, Eugene…

I’ve been using the term “review” pretty loosely here.  Sometime I actually review the episode, but other time I just recap or talking about things I noticed in the episode.  I’m definitely not going to review “Hostiles and Calamities,” but more of a recap here.

This is like, what, the third time we get a tour of The Sanctuary?  I mean, we get it!  The Saviors are very similar to Alexandrians, but with the main different being one is ruled by a complete lunatic, and the other not so much.  The episode focuses on Eugene’s stay at The Sanctuary, and well, that’s pretty much it.  Is this episode a character journey for Eugene?  Maybe.  Is Eugene playing the long con?  I doubt it.

I’ve always been a fan of Eugene- I don’t know why.  The truth is, I’m just a fan of Rick’s core group, and I hope the best for everyone. That said, Eugene’s cowardliness has always been annoying.  Things were looking up a bit for him few episodes ago, when he steps up and admits he’s the one that’s been making the bullets, but honestly, that didn’t really pay off as well.  A lot of people can argue that Eugene is only faking it right now to fool Negan, but I don’t think so.  As far as Eugene knows, he has no idea that Rick is ready to fight back.  The guy is long overdue for a payoff, and I will be really surprise if he actually has anything planned.

By the way, Eugene sure knows how to show those ladies a good time.  Also, I’m glad the episode spends its time to show Negan’s wives trying to kill him.  We already know the guy is a tyrant to his people, and it’s only makes sense that not everyone is willing to let him walk all over them.  If anything, the crack in the system here might help the upcoming war- if that’s going to happen at all.  How about Negan’s comment about another Dr. Carson?  Does this mean they’re going to steal the doctor from Hilltop?  Is this the push for Hilltop to join the war against Saviors?

Ans this episode features something about Dwight and Sherry.  I’m not sure about his either, but it’s just more cracks in Saviors’ shaky foundation.
