The Good Kind of Geek’s Top 10 Games of 2016

Another great year for gaming.

2016 has gone, and 2017 is finally here!  While the year might be a shitty one, it’s not necessary the case for gaming.  2016 has given us plenty of great games, and once again I’m going to list my 10 favorite games here.

Apology ahead of time for not being unable to review all the games on the list below.  Like I said, 2016 was a shitty year:

Honorable Mention- Pokemon Go:

Pokemon Go, let’s face it, it’s a disaster.  The game is buggy, unstable and pretty much unable from time to time.  The game comes to us like a storm in the summer of 2016, and it’s pretty much done already- and we are only on generation one!  The game tries to bring players back by giving special events and hints of gen two Pokemon, but unless a full future generations updates are available, I doubt the game will make a real comeback anytime soon.

10. Fallout 4 Far Harbor/Nuka World:

I know Fallout 4 came out in 2015, but its DLC didn’t come out until 2016.  The game remains my favorite throughout 2016, and heck, I was even playing the game last night before I write this article lol.

9. Civilization VI:

The newest installment comes with plenty of new gameplay methods and leaders.  I can easily play this game for hours before I realize I need to get a real job already.

8. Phoenix Wight: Spirit of Justice:

The newest installment of one of my favorite games!  However, Spirit of Justice can be a little…. off.  If you’re a fan of the franchise, you can still get the game and find out yourself.

7. Final Fantasy XV:

A game where four boys go on a field trip and sleep in the same tatami room.  It even comes with waterproof hair spray.  This game.  I just…

6. Batman: The Telltale Series:

Telltale’s games might be buggy from time to time, but they’re great with storytelling.  Their Batman game shakes up Batman’s mythos and show us a side of Gotham we never knew about.  Hopefully a second season will be released soon.

5. Dishonored 2:

Are you a boy or a girl?

4. Doom:

I’m as surprise as you that this game is good.

3. Pokemon Sun and Moon:

The only game I reviewed on the list.  You can read why I like it at the link below.

2. Uncharted : A Thief’s End:

Uncharted 4 marks a beautiful end to the beloved franchise.  It’s hinted the franchise might continue on somehow, but I’m sure Nathan Drake’s journey is finally over.  I think.

1. Overwatch:

Are you surprise Overwatch is the best game of 2016?

Other games I really like this year are the remastered ones such as Batman: Return to Arkham, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition and BioShock: The Collection.  All three games (franchises) are on my top seven list, so yeah, it’s a really good year for gaming 🙂
