A Clue to What the Rogue One Reshoots Are All About

The Death Star has touched down.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been out in theater for a week now, and the reviews for the film have been really, really good.  Heck, even I love the film.  However, I can’t help but notice that some memorable moments from the trailers are not in the film at all.  It’s infamously known that Disney ordered Lucasfilm for reshoots, but we never know why.  Don’t worry, that’s why I’m here.  I’m going to point out some key moments from the trailers missing from the final film, and take a wild guess what the original narrative of the film might be.

And of course, SPOILERS so don’t read ahead if you haven’t seen the film yet.

First off, let’s talk about that Jyn Erso moment where she stands with an Imperial uniform, the same image I used as a header above.

The scene is heavily associated with Rogue One since its debut in the first teaser trailer back in April.  It has a dramatic voice-over of Saw Gerrera asking what Jyn will become as the trailer fades to black for the title credits.  This scene pretty much says that Jyn will undergo some major transformation at the end of the film.  We will talk about that at the end of this article.

The fight on Scaif was originally very different too.  The trailers show Jyn, Cassian and K running with the Death Star plan, escaping the tower and even fight AT-AT with the others:

Also, not to mention that Director Orson Krennic walking through the carnage of Battle of Scarif.  It’s a power shot that shows the true ugly side of the war:

In fact, Krennic never even leave the Scarif base at all in the final film.  The final battle on Scarif really plays out differently than the trailers suggested.  This also leads to:

In the first official trailer released back in August, it shows Jyn Erso walking up to a TIE Fighter and it’s clear that sh*t is about to go down.  However, this scene is not in the film either and we can only guess who’s operating the Fighter.  Can it be big baddies Darth Vader or Krennic?  My money is on the later, as it seems to suggest in the original film Krennic is more involved in the battle.  It’s unknown why we are receiving cuts left and right, and hopefully we can get an explanation on Blu-ray or digital releases.

However, these all seem to suggest a very different ending where Jyn Erso will be captured by the Imperials.  This is especially the case with Saw’s speech asking what Jyn will become if she’s captured.  In my own vision, I can see an ending where Jyn faces off Krennic’s TIE Fighter, defeated, and maybe left scarred, physically deformed with an inch of her life left, got taken by the Imperials and goes through some physical transformation similar to Darth Vader.  This is a strange thing to say, but if you’ve been reading those Rogue One Knight of Ren theories out there, than everything makes sense.  I strongly believe this was the originally ending, but too dark for Disney’s taste so they have to change it.

But what do you think?  Is it possible that Jyn Eros was going to join the dark side?  Do you like the final film?  Maybe it would be cool to see a much darker Rogue One?  Is Jar Jar Binks going to be back ever?  Let’s discuss in the comments below.
