Geoff Johns Revealed Crime Syndicate of America Coming to New 52

Crime Syndicate of America is back!  And they’re taking over the New 52.

DC confirmed today that Crime Syndicate of America will be the villains that take over the world in Forever Evil event, not the Secret Society of Super Villains that we believed it to be.  Also, Geoff Johns, DC’s chief creative office, also revealed that Crime Syndicate is also responsible for what’s happening in Trinity War right now.

The New 52 version of Crime Syndicated of America will be like how it always is- from Earth 3.  The members will include Ultraman, Owlman, Superwoman, Power Ring, Johnny Quick and a new member Deathstorm, most likely the evil version of Firestorm.

For them, and Ultraman in particular, it’s not about good and evil. It’s about strength and weakness. They’re the strongest, most powerful people on their planet, therefore they have ruled it,” Johns states.

Evil is relative – and what I mean by that, is that our villains are as complex, as deep and as compelling as any of our heroes. Every antagonist in the DC Universe has a unique darkness, desire and drive. And the reason for being of Forever Evil is to explore that darkness,” explained Johns. “We start literally, in the first issue, when the whole world goes dark; communication and power are gone. And as our Earth is plunged into darkness, the Crime Syndicate begins their plan for conquest.

Villains of our Earth will face off Crime Syndicate of America who wants to take over the world.  Lex Luthor is going to our protagonist, and that’s interesting because he is a hero on Earth 3 who stands up against the Crime Syndicate.  Johns also states the obvious question of why Batman is on Lex Luthor’s side as it’s impossible to see Batman obeying Luthor.  It’s hinted that this Batman might not be Bruce at all, and the question is who he really is.

Forever Evil #1 will be out in September 4th.
