Comics Reviews 4-03-2013

My parents are visiting me this week, so I don’t have much time at all for my blog.  I already missed the finale of The Walking Dead, I’m not missing the chance to blog about the comics this week.

Cover of the week:

action comic 19

DC is doing secret covers for every issues this month.  While most of them just turn out to be a gimmick, this one gets my interest.  Why is Superman hitting Jimmy Olsen?

Onward to the reviews!

All-New X-Men issue 10.  This is the best series by Marvel in my opinion.  This issue continues where Cyclops is trying to recruit members of Wolverine’s school.  While the moment is intense, it was no surprise whom end up joining Cyclops at his team.  The narration is kind of annoying though, to have Cyclops returning to campus a second time.

I think I have a good idea who’s joining Cyclops’ team- I think it’s Jean Grey.  Ever since few issues ago, I have a strong feeling that the writers are planning on turning Jean Grey into a villain.  So anything, I wouldn’t be surprise Jean Grey ends up joining the other side next week.

I actually found Maria Hill side of the story kind of distracting.  It’s hard to care about that side of story while I don’t even know what Mystique is planning to do, and frankly I don’t care.

Again, we shall see who joins Cyclops next issue- my money is on Jean Grey.

Detective Comics issue 19.  This is an interesting issue because if DC never re-start their universe to New 52, and the number system didn’t start new, this would have been the 900th issue of Detective Comics!  Well, it didn’t really stop DC from celebrating this event, and the issue is over-sized with 80 pages!  Of course, it’s over-priced too.

This issue re-told the origin of Man-Bat in the New 52 universe.  While it’s interesting to learn Man-Bat’s story, the issue is kind of all over the place.  The pacing is awful, and there are too many story fit into one book.  If this is how they celebrate their 900th issue, I have no idea how they are celebrating their 1000th issue.

Anyway, awful issue.

One Piece chapter 704: Lucy and the Statue of Kyros.  There are a lot of contestants in this chapter!  Most importantly, Bellamy is still alive!  What the hell, man!  I thought his own firs mate killed him back in Jaya.  Also, it seems like Bellamy’s bounty is over 100 million as well.  I wonder how much he’s improved since his last appearance, and if Oda has any specific reason to bring this character back.

A new character Rebecca is introduced this week.

Rebecca_Manga_Infobox

A typical female character from a manga series with very limited clothing.  However, it’s interesting trying to figure out with Rebecca really is.  At the end of the chapter, it was revealed that the winner of Block A is actually Jesus Burgess of Blackbeard Pirates in disguise.  I think it’s probably safe to assume that other contestants are in disguise as well.  Well, Luffy is in disguise too so…. Who can this “Rebecca” really be?

I think the biggest possibility is Marguerite of the Kuja tribe.  The two talk in a similar manner, and they have the same sense of warrior duties.  Not to mention similar appearance, too.  Of course, it’s still too early for me to be certain and I don’t have actual proof for it yet.  Also, if she’s really Marguerite, I have no idea how she managed to get off Amazon Lilly.

Another important note from this chapter is that Jesus Burgess is titled the commander of the first fleet.  It hints that the Blackbeard Pirates is getting bigger than it was.  Just how big the crew has become is remain to be seen.

Anyway, a wonderful chapter and I can’t wait for next week.

Not to many notes this week.  All the American comics are pretty lame, and I’m fairly disappointed.  Also, I’m planning stop buying Worlds’ Finest after next issue.  It’s just not going anywhere.
